Zingerman’s Bakehouse Teaches You Traditional Jewish Baking

BAKE!, the new hands-on teaching bakery at Zingerman’s Bakehouse in Ann Arbor, is offering traditional Jewish baking classes this Passover season. Eager students yearning for a refresher course in the time-honored methods they learned in Bubbe’s kitchen are signing up to make coconut macaroons, fluffy meringues and spectacular sponge cakes in the new Don’t Passover These Holiday Treats class for adults.

Students at BAKE! learn to make breads and pastries they can recreate at home in a small class with experienced Bakehouse bakers. “The school is unusual in that it is so specialized – focusing entirely on baking” noted Detroit Free Press food writer, Sylvia Rector, “– and yet is geared to nonprofessional, everyday folks.”

“BAKE! is the School of Hard Knocks, without the pain, humiliation and pressure that typically accompany a restaurant apprenticeship,” explained Ann Arbor News food writer, Nan Bauer. “You work side by side with superb teachers while you’re up to your elbows in ingredients. The class was fun.”

Traditional Jewish baked goods classes such as Better Bagels, Hurray for Challah, Who’s Who of Jewish Cookies and others are also offered at BAKE!. For a complete class schedule and registration visit www.zingermansbakehouse.com or call 734-761-7255.
