Gelato Cocktails!

New Year’s Eve is one of the single best nights of the year to try out a new cocktail or two, and there are some very interesting things you can do with gelato and various liqueurs. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Gelato Grasshopper— In our take on this classic from the French Quarter in New Orleans, shake together equal parts crème de menthe, crème de cacao, and some of our Mint Chocolate Chip gelato.
  • The McManus— Mix together 2 parts Irish whiskey, 1 part coffee liqueur, and enough Roadhouse Vanilla gelato to reach whatever consistency you’d prefer (we like them just about as thick as a milkshake).
  • Shokolad— 2 parts vodka, 1 part crème de cacao, and our Dark Chocolate gelato, made using the same method as the McManus.
  • Maple Pecan Float— Place a few scoops of Maple Pecan gelato into a highball glass, pour a shot of your favorite bourbon over the gelato, and then fill the glass with whichever rootbeer strikes your fancy.
  • Reasonably-Paced Gin Fizz— We love the brilliant fuschia color that sloe gin (a blackthorn berry liqueur) imparts, and our redux of this old standby replaces it’s traditional egg white fizz with a dollop of Roadhouse Vanilla gelato. Shake together 1 1/2 ounces of sloe gin, 3/4 ounce lemon juice and a very small scoop of vanilla gelato. Once they’re smooth, pour into a glass and top with some soda water or a champagne float and another scoop of gelato.

Also, for the non-cocktail set, you can always make a classic Guiness float with either Vanilla OR Dulce De Leche gelato and a hearty Stout.
