Please join us Tonight, March 4 at 7pm as the Roadhouse celebrates one of our favorite cities and cuisines with our annual New Orleans Dinner, this year celebrating Mardi Gras on the actual day of Mardi Gras! While our celebration will be quite a bit tamer than the one happening 1000 miles south, we will celebrate Fat Tuesday the best way we know how – with rich, delicious Creole cuisine, NOLA inspired cocktails and interesting conversation, making the Roadhouse the next best place to be if you can’t make it to New Orleans yourself.

Roasters-Pick-MAR-FinalMarch Roaster’s Pick at Zingerman’s Coffee Company

This month we’re featuring Zambia Kaleya Valley, a Zambian that comes from the Terranova Estate, which is almost 80 years old and has been producing coffee since 1984. The cool altitude and geography are excellent for growing coffee. Colin and Alison Street, along with their eldest son Greg, who manages the farm, have actively supported the local community. This includes an on-site school.

The Terranova School is fully financed by the Streets and boasts 250 students. Each year the Streets add a classroom and a teacher, so the school continues to grow and offer higher levels of education. This school is situated on the farm itself and the farm laborers’ children get the first option at attending, then it is open to the district. In addition, 25% of the farm has been fenced off and maintained as indigenous area.

Sadly, this will be the last year we are able to get this coffee. Economics have forced the Streets to pull out the coffee crop and plant wheat. As a cup of coffee, the Kaleya Valley Zambian has super rich and earthy body with flavors of a ripe Bosc pear and a pleasant dry walnut-like finish. We like it in a press pot. Also available for shipping through Zingerman’s Mail Order.

And don’t forget the Zingerman’s Coffee Brewing Methods class this coming Sunday, March 9, 1pm-3pm. Learn the keys to successful coffee brewing using a wide variety of brewing methods from filter drip to syphon pot. We will take a single coffee and brew it 6 to 8 different ways, each producing a unique taste. We’ll learn the proper proportions and technique for each and discuss the merits and differences of each style.

Cheese of the Month at Zingerman’s Creamery

cheshire

March is the perfect month to try our Great Lakes Cheshire!
Made with raw cow’s milk, this is our first-ever hard cheese! The Great Lakes Cheshire is a very old recipe that John learned from a Welsh cheese-maker 25 years ago. It is a quick-ripening variant that is perfect for the extremely rich milk we get from a small mixed-herd of cows. The cheese sports a natural rind that envelops a supple, slightly crumbly paste with a full and accessible flavor. Also available at Zingerman’s Deli.  Stop in for a taste!

Next week:

speaker-series-speech-bubbleSpeaker Series continues at ZingTrain

Please join us Wednesday, March 12, 730am-930am for another thought-provoking session of the ZingTrain Speaker Series.

This week’s session will feature Dean Tucker, author of the Using the Power of Purpose, who will speak on the topic: Understanding Gen X & Gen Y.  Ari frequently recommends Dean Tucker’s book as a…well, powerful read. As a management consultant, and nationally recognized author and speaker, Dean knows how to draw incisive conclusions about the phenomena he is witnessing and better yet for those of us who have the opportunity to learn from him, Dean knows how to use those conclusions to suggest positive behavior changes. In this much-needed talk, Dean will talk to us about Gen X and Gen Y – what motivates them and how to effectively manage them.
