Local  B Nektar is garnering praise from all corners for their distinctive, locally brewed mead. Beginning as a small, one-off operation for a wedding, the Ferndale-based company was featured in the Metro Times, and has drawn praise from all over the Mitten for their brew. Please join us Friday, May 1st, 6pm as we sample a selection of their fine meads paired with a compliment of piquant Creamery cheeses.

First Sunday Tour at Zingerman’s Creamery

Join our cheese and gelato makers Sunday May 4, 2pm for an hour-long adventure to see how we transform local milk into delicious cheese and gelato. On this tour, you will observe mozzarella stretching and taste freshly made gelato. You’ll sample our selection of cow and goat’s milk cheese while learning from Creamery staff how the cheese is made. Tours happen on the first Sunday of each month!

bakecation_pastry_0BAKE!-cation Pastry Weekend 2.0 at Zingerman’s Bakehouse

Our first BAKE!-cation of the season is coming up on May 17 & 18, and we’re so excited that we’re taking $100 off the price!

There are so many delicious and interesting pastries to make we thought we’d create a 2nd version of our popular weekend class for all you baking enthusiasts. Join us to travel through the U.S. for brownies, doughnuts, cupcakes and a whole grain muffin to Europe for danish, mandelbrot (Jewish biscotti), and countryside tarts. We’ll end our journey in North Africa with a Tunisian orange cake. You’ll learn a useful range of baking techniques from yeasted dough creation to tart dough mixing and rolling to cupcake decorating. Your BAKE!-cation weekend includes two breakfasts and two lunches. You’ll head home with our recipes, the knowledge to recreate them and all the pastries you made in class (enough to fill a suitcase). This experience will leave you with sweet memories, guaranteed.

It’s spring-cleaning time! The new olive oil harvest will be coming in soon, and that means great deals on our existing oil stock. Hurry, we have very limited supplies, and when they’re gone, they’re gone. Oaxacan Mexican Dinner at Zingerman’s Roadhouse

While Mexican cooking varies from one region of the country to another, no State compares with Oaxaca in the variety of cuisines found within it’s borders. Know as the “Land of Seven Moles, Oaxaca is blessed with an abundance of vegetables grown in the central valley; fish and shellfish from the southern coast and Isthmus regions; and a year-round supply of tropical fruit from the lush area bordering Veracruz. This Monday, May 5, 7pm, Roadhouse Chef Bob Bennett, with his passion for cooking traditional Mexican, will prepare a traditionally made menu full of flavor and Oaxacan staples: corn, empanadas, tamales, lentils, black beans and of course, chocolate and moles.

Please join us Wednesday, May 7, 730am-930am for another thought-provoking session of the ZingTrain Speaker Series. This session features University of Michigan Associate Professor of Psychology, Ram Mahalingam, whose topic will be Mindfulness Matters.

Ram Mahalingam has had mindfulness on his mind for quite a while now. He’s studied it, researched it, practiced it, turned it on its head and looked at it from the other side. Ram will begin this session with an overview of current research on mindfulness that documents how mindfulness practices improve our psychological well being.

Ram Mahalingam has been a civil engineer, math tutor, film script writer, children’s theater activist, poet, writer, lecturer, night watchman, dish washer, cook, book stacker and preschool teacher. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan in the Personality and Social Contexts program. He is also a core faculty member of the Psychology and Women’s Studies joint PhD program. He was the interim director for the Culture and Cognition program at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on culture, gender and psychological well being. He teaches courses on Gender Psychology, Cultural Psychology of Immigrants, Psychology of Mindfulness and Psychology of Films.
