November and December our Nonprofit Spotlight is on Food Gatherers!

Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

They rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. They lead a network of hunger relief providers and engage the public in the fight against hunger. They create and sustain innovative new food programs in response to emerging needs. They recognize that hunger will not be solved through the provision of food alone, so they advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.

What's Rockin for the Hungry?

During Rockin’ for the Hungry, community members can join Food Gatherers, ann arbor’s 107one, and Kroger to raise one million meals for our community.

Gifts made during Rockin’ will be matched 1:1 thanks to the generosity of the Harold & Kay Peplau Family Fund, Kroger, and our Power Hour Sponsors. This annual food and fund drive will feature live interviews, matching funds for financial gifts, and a food drive. Help put more meals on more tables during the holiday season and all year long!

Stay tuned and you'll even catch some interviews from some Zingerman's folks!

What does Zingerman's love about Food Gatherers?

This fantastic organization, though it operates separately from Zingerman's, was actually founded by the Zingerman's Deli back in 1988 right around Thanksgiving time. What began as a small group of volunteers who wanted to ensure nutritious food was available to all who needed it in our community has now become an impressive enterprise that serves tens of thousands of meals a day. The Zingerman's team is made up of people who love food and community so naturally we admire the work done at Food Gatherers which focuses on supporting both. Particularly during this holiday season, it's so important that we work towards a more equitable food system that serves all, because everyone deserves to have healthy and delicious food on their table.
