July's Spotlight Organization is Hire MI Vet
Hire MI Vet is a community initiative that helps Veterans gain meaningful employment.
Hire MI Vet uses a multi-pronged program that gives Veterans a hand up, lifting the unemployed and underemployed Veteran out of poverty.
They were created out of an identified need to support Veterans and their families with job readiness skills. Their efforts have grown over the years, but their approach has stayed the same; they
are advocates and coaches for the Veteran community as they navigate the employment world.

Zingerman's Mail Order Warehouse Shop Fundraiser Sale

Shop in-person at the Zingerman's Mail Order Warehouse Shop at 710 Phoenix Drive in Ann Arbor on July 30th! All proceeds from that days' sales in the Warehouse Shop will be donated directly to our friends at Hire MI Vet! The Warehouse Shop is open from 9am to 10pm. Please follow the current mask and social distancing guidelines that will be reflected on signage at the Warehouse Shop. There is a limit of four people allowed in the shop at a time. Join us in a fun shopping spree for a fantastic cause!

7th Annual Hire MI Vet Hiring Event

The 7th annual hiring event will take place at Concordia University, in the Kreft Center for the Arts building! Volunteers needed!
What Resources Does Hire MI Vet Offer
Hire MI Vet provides three facets that support Veterans and their families.
The first being their Mentorship Program - Veterans receive individualized support by being paired with a mentor who assists them in navigating five aspects or the employment journey: Resumes; cover letters; interview skills; elevator speech; job search assistance.
The second program is their Networking Program - A monthly program to connect Veterans and employers in an informal environment and interactive setting. This program focuses on building relationships with employers and highlighting Veteran-friendly opportunities for Veterans.
And the third is their Annual Hiring Event with over 30 employers and 70-90 Veterans across Michigan that attend this event yearly, along with many Veterans Service Organizations.
Additionally, HMV provides or coordinates emergency help for: the VA food pantry, any clothing that a Veteran may need for a job, and coordinating reimbursement from the State Unemployment Insurance for Veterans resulting in over $30,000 into Veterans pockets in 2021.
What Are Some Great Ways to Support Hire MI Vet
Sometimes they accept food for the VA food pantry but only when they indicate its needed. They do need a place to store clothing for Veterans but do not yet have the funding to accomplish this activity which is one of their two to four year goals.
Volunteers are always welcome and needed to participate as Ambassadors, which includes greeting and helping to guide Veterans to employers matching their skills. Or one can volunteer during the Annual Hiring Event or the Fundraising Walk/Run is which is Saturday, September 25, 2021.

And during the entire month of July, you can donate cash in person at participating Zingerman's businesses. Just look for the collection bin at check out!
