Chef Sean Sherman • Blueberry Harvest Moon at Miss Kim

As Miss Kim dives into its busy fall event schedule, the team is reflecting on a memorable summer. Miss Kim’s schedule was flush with farmers market presentations, suckling pig dinners, and their very first vegetarian feasts. Most notably, the team hosted a visit from Chef Sean Sherman, acclaimed indigenous food activist and founder of The Sioux Chef and NATIFS.org.

Join us as we reflect on one of the highlights of Miss Kim’s summer!

Dinner of the Blueberry Harvest Moon
Miss Kim executed not one, but two, sold-out, multi-course dinner experiences. The dinner, in honor of the Blueberry Harvest Moon, featured a custom menu designed by Chef Sean Sherman and executed by the Miss Kim team.

Each dinner was complete with a traditional welcome blessing from Shiloh Maples of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, an intimate talk with Chef Sean Sherman, and cookbook signings facilitated by our friends at Literati Bookstore. The dinners also included conversations with local chefs of native heritage: the first night with local chef Matt Tulpa, and the second night with Chef Mike, one of Miss Kim’s own.

Giving Ancient Traditions New Life
Chef Sean Sherman’s James Beard Award-winning cookbook resonated deeply with Chef Ji Hye: her copy is full of post-it note bookmarks.
Chef Ji Hye was grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Chef Sean in her kitchen, which much like Chef Sean, is rooted in respect for tradition and a connection to food, land and family. The Miss Kim staff shares Chef Ji Hye’s enthusiasm for Chef Sean’s vision – many put in early requests to work the event!

Chef Sean’s visit brought Miss Kim back to its roots and the “why” behind Chef Ji Hye Kim’s approach: giving ancient traditions new life with the vibrancy of hyper-seasonal ingredients.

If you weren’t able to join us, here’s a peek at the menu and a few photos from the dinners.
