San Street Debuts at Mark’s Carts on Wednesday!

Bring on the pork buns!

Starting Wednesday, May 18, Ji Hye Kim and Kristen Hogue Jackson are bringing the San Street Cart, an aspiring new Zingerman’s business featuring Asian street fare made from traditional recipes with fresh, high quality ingredients—local whenever possible—to join the ranks of Mark’s Carts at 208 W. Washington St. Be sure to stop by and say hi, 11am-2pm.

The menu features:

Steamed Pork Buns
Roasted pork, hoisin sauce, quick pickled cucumbers, scallion ginger sauce

Steamed Mushroom Buns
Sauteed mushrooms, spicy mayo, quick pickled cucumbers

Cash only, please!

Mark’s Carts offers an array of fresh ethnic dishes every day from 8am to 10pm, in a brand new courtyard garden on Washington Street between First and Ashley.

Chef Alex Young Predicted to Win Tonight’s Beard Award!

We were super excited and very proud when we found out Zingerman’s Roadhouse Chef Alex Young received another nomination for the James Beard Awards in the Great Lakes category. Last week, we were thrilled when we learned that The Foodist from Bon Appetit predicted Chef this year’s winner. Now we are at the edge of our seats with anticipation awaiting the results of tonight’s James Beard Award show! Chef Alex is attending the event live at Lincoln Center in New York. Yay, Alex! We’re rooting for you, and we already know you are the best chef in the Great Lakes region!

Zingerman’s Co-Founder Ari Weinzweig Gives Keynote at the Gathering of Games!

The 19th Annual Gathering of Games is going on May 4-6 in St. Louis, MO.

This event brings members of the Open-Book Management Community together from around the world to learn, share, and celebrate the principles and practices of The Great Game of Business and Open-Book Management. Speakers at the Annual Gathering of Games conference are business leaders practicing Open-Book Management in their own organization. Zingerman’s not only practices Open-Book Management – we also teach the tools and techniques that make it work for us!

We are super excited and honored that Zingerman’s co-founder Ari Weinzweig is slated to give the closing keynote lecture on Friday!

Bakehouse Rye on The Splendid Table!

About 20 minutes into the program, Lynne Rossetto Kasper talks with Jan and Michael Stern about their hunt to find the country’s best rye bread for Saveur magazine — which they found, of course, made at Zingerman’s Bakehouse. The 2k loaf is described as “a joy to hold and heft.” Very cool!
